More Than a Member: A Guardian Story
Celebrating 25+ years of connection with Amanda Walker Anderson
“I always knew you were my Guardian Angel.”
Amanda will never forget the moment longtime member David Scoggins said those words to her—dressed as a Guardian Angel during a Halloween celebration at the Federal Drive branch.
“He calls me his Guardian Angel,” Amanda said with a smile. “One year, he came into the Federal Drive branch around Halloween. We had the branch decorated like a sky full of clouds and were dressed as Guardian Angels. He looked around and told me, ‘I always knew you were my Guardian Angel.’ I’ll never forget that.”
At Guardian Credit Union, meaningful connections often grow far beyond the walls of a branch. For Amanda Walker Anderson, who has been with Guardian for over 25 years, one of those connections has become a cherished part of her everyday life.
“I’ve known Mr. Scoggins for over 25 years,” Amanda shared. “He’s one of my favorite members. He’ll stop by just for a hug, even if he doesn’t have any banking to do.”
Amanda first met Mr. Scoggins while working at Comala, before it became Guardian Credit Union, and their paths have continued to cross ever since. Through the years, she’s come to know his entire family—his daughters, his son, and even his daughter-in-law Sue, who once worked as the lead teller at the credit union.
Now 88 years old and retired from the City of Montgomery, Mr. Scoggins still finds ways to stay connected with Amanda. “When I worked at DOL, he was getting work done on his car nearby,” she recalled. “At 88, he walked up the hill just to see me. That’s the kind of relationship we have.”
Their bond extends beyond the branch. “He told me his French bulldog was pregnant, and I said if she had a little girl, I might need her,” Amanda said. “Now I have one of his puppies at home. It’s like I have a part of him with me every day.”
Amanda has been a constant in David’s life, especially as other familiar faces at the credit union have passed or retired. “I’m his go-to now. His daughters even know they can call me for anything—whether it’s banking-related or personal.”
Mr. Scoggins, who has been a member of the credit union since the 1950s, shared what Amanda has meant to him over the years: “She’s always helped me with everything I need. She’s a good person—she’s always been my friend. She’s just an angel. I think the world of her. She goes out of her way to help everybody.”
For Amanda, stories like this are at the heart of her time at Guardian. “This isn’t just a job—it’s relationships, it’s trust, it’s family. That’s what being a part of Guardian really means.” Over the years, many members and coworkers have become like family to her. “Most of the friends I have in my life, I’ve met working here. That’s what I love most—building meaningful relationships while helping with their banking needs.”
